About Kat
Kat Strickland graduated with a B.A.S in Fine Arts and Humanities from Colorado State University in 1984. She has studied Ceramics with Regis Brodie at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, New York, and with Paul Soldner & Peter Voulkos during a week-long workshop at Anderson Ranch in Aspen, Colorado. She has been working with clay since 1977.

Kat is a full-time artist and art instructor living in Newburgh, NY with her husband and two parakeets near beautiful Chadwick Lake. Her Mixed Media work is a managerie of pottery, jewelry, photography, painting, and collage.

Her life experiences of living in the West and Southwest has greatly influenced her work. A Native of Denver, Kat has traveled to Alaska, islands in the Carribean, Mexico, Africa, and Europe. ”I feel lucky to have traveled so much. Different cultures have opened my eyes and expanded my awareness.”

Beads and charms are often found decorating her signature pieces. She also incorporates her photography, collage, found objects, and treasures from nature. She continues to tell her stories and fairy tales, which are creatively told through her Story Bowls and 3-D Story, Stage & Scene works.

Kat's treasure necklaces not only have handmade ceramic and glass beads collected from all over the world, but some of the beads have been found in the dry river beds of Arizona with holes already in them. Mother Nature makes beads too! Let her design special jewelry that will complement your wardrobe.

Please contact Kat for special orders or classes.
